Sparkles Review 2026: The AI Girlfriend App Where Free Includes The Pictures

I have lost count of how many AI girlfriend apps advertise a free tier. What almost none of them tell you upfront is that the free tier is chat only, and that every image, every voice note and every remotely spicy feature sits behind a subscription. Sparkles does something different, and it is the reason this review exists: your free daily credits can be spent on uncensored image generation.

That is not a small distinction. It changes what the free tier is for. On most platforms it is a demo designed to frustrate you into paying. Here it is a small but genuine allowance.

What Sparkles actually is

Sparkles runs at sparkles-app.com and is a browser based, 18+ AI companion app. You browse a library of characters that mixes anime waifus, hentai styles and photoreal partners, you chat with them, you generate images and video of them, and on Premium you can call them and get spoken replies. Every character carries a name, an age and a one line setup, from a private tutor to a shy cosplayer to a Christmas elf.

The company is European by default, prices display in euros, and the footer carries a 2257 record keeping statement alongside links to an active Discord, Reddit and X presence.

The Sparks economy

Everything on Sparkles is priced in credits called Sparks, and the numbers are published rather than buried:

A message costs 2 Sparks. An image costs 10, or 20 if you switch on the Vivid premium model. Creating a new character costs 300.

You get Sparks free every day. You can earn more by completing tasks, referring friends or giving feedback. And critically, Sparks never expire once you have them, so a top-up is not a use it or lose it purchase.

Spark packs run: 150 for €4.99, 350 for €9.99, 800 for €19.99 which the site marks as most popular, 2,200 for €49.99, and 5,000 for €99.99. Premium members get 30 percent more Sparks on every one of those.

Doing the arithmetic, the 800 pack at €19.99 is 80 images, or 400 messages, or a couple of custom characters with change. That is not the cheapest generation in the category, but it is far from the worst, and the transparency is worth something on its own.

The free tier, tested honestly

Your daily Sparks go as far as a handful of images or a short conversation, not both, and not for long. Treat it as a few generations a day rather than an unlimited playground.

But it is real. There is no card, no trial countdown, and no separate paywall in front of the uncensored output specifically. If your usage is light, a few pictures a week and the occasional chat, you can run on the free tier indefinitely. I do not know of many competitors where that is true.

The image generator

Simple by design. You pick a character, optionally set an outfit and a pose, add a few tags, and generate. The Vivid toggle switches to the premium model with sharper detail and better skin and lighting, at double the credit cost.

The output is good rather than category-leading. Faces are consistent, the anime pipeline is competent, and the photoreal side holds up at a glance without matching what the top image-focused platforms produce. For a platform where this is a free-tier feature, that is a fair place to land.

Video generation sits in a tab beside it and is a Premium feature. It exists, it works, and it is not the reason to choose this platform.

Chat, and where the credits go

At 2 Sparks a message, conversation is what drains a free balance. That is the deliberate trade Sparkles has made: free images, metered chat. Whether that suits you depends entirely on which half of the product you care about.

The conversation itself is competent. Characters hold their setup, they stay uncensored, and they do not stall out or hand you a refusal mid-scene, which is still the most common failure in this category. What you do not get is the deep, multi-session memory that the chat-first platforms have built their whole pitch around. She will follow the thread of a conversation. She is not going to build a months-long relationship model.

Premium removes the message cap entirely, which is the point at which the product stops being a generation tool with a chat box attached and starts being an actual companion app.

What Premium costs and what it buys

€14.99 a month with no commitment. €11.99 a month if you pay €35.97 quarterly. €9.99 a month if you pay €119.99 for the year. The site shows a €39.99 struck-through price next to all three, which is marketing rather than a rate anyone has actually paid.

For that you get 1000 Sparks a month, 30 bonus Sparks every day, unlimited messages, video generation, voice calls, audio messages, premium image models, custom personas, daily rewards and 30 percent extra on any Spark pack you buy on top.

At €9.99 a month that is genuinely good value for this category. At €14.99 month to month it is still fair. The daily bonus Sparks matter more than the monthly 1000 for most people, because they arrive whether you use them or not.

Payments and discretion

Cards through Visa and Mastercard, plus an unusually broad crypto spread: Bitcoin, Tether, USD Coin, Ethereum, Litecoin, TRON and Solana. The subscriptions page states plainly that no adult transaction appears on your bank statement.

The privacy posture is reasonable rather than exceptional. There is a 2257 statement, a cookie policy and a privacy policy, and the site says card and crypto details are never stored. As always, read the policy yourself before you upload anything personal.

Where it falls short

The character library is on the small side. The site says dozens, and dozens is accurate. If you burn through characters quickly you will hit the end of the interesting ones and be looking at the 300-Spark creator sooner than you would on a platform carrying hundreds.

The euro pricing is a mild annoyance outside Europe. Your real cost moves with the exchange rate and your card may add a foreign transaction fee.

And the copywriting across the site is aggressively keyword stuffed, the sort of page that repeats "best free AI girlfriend app" until the phrase loses meaning. It genuinely undersells the product. The thing behind the marketing is better built than the marketing suggests.

How it compares

Against Candy AI or Secrets AI, Sparkles is smaller and less polished but far more generous before you pay. Against the pure image generators, it has a real companion layer that they lack. Against the chat-first, memory-heavy platforms, it loses on conversation depth and wins on visuals per euro.

Who should use it

Start free, and mean it. Spend a week of daily Sparks on the image generator and see whether the output is what you want. That evaluation costs you nothing, which is exactly how it should work.

Upgrade to Premium if you chat a lot, because 2 Sparks a message is what will push you there, and take the yearly rate if you are confident. Skip it if you want a huge character library, deep long-term memory, or the absolute best image quality in the category, because there are better platforms for each of those individually.

The free daily credits for uncensored image generation are the most consumer-friendly thing I have seen in this category this year, the generator is simple and effective, and Premium at €9.99 a month on yearly billing is priced sensibly. What holds the score down is everything around that: chat is metered at 2 Sparks a message so a free balance drains into a subscription, the character library is smaller than its rivals, euro-only pricing adds friction outside Europe, and the footer names no company and no address, which is a weaker trust signal than the better operators in this category give you. A well built product hiding behind some genuinely awful SEO copy.
